Ben Affleck is best known as an American actor, producer, film director, philanthropist, and a screenwriter. He started his career as a child when he appeared in the educational series "The Voyage of the Mimi". He gained recognition when he won both Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, for writing the drama film "Good Will Hunting" in 1997.
Benjamin Geza Affleck-Boldt was born in August 15, 1972 in Berkeley, California. His parents, Christopher Anne Boldt and Timothy Byers Affleck. His mother, was a Harvard-educated elementary school teacher, and his father was an aspiring playwright who has different jobs to make a living. Their family lived in Massachusetts when he was three years sold, before they all settled in Cambridge. His parents got divorced when he was at the age of 11.
Ben and his brother was active in the arts, and regularly attended some theater performances. They both auditioned in local commercials and film productions. Even though Affleck had high SAT scores, he was unfocused on his studies and has poor attendance. He studied Spanish for months at the University of Vermont, and studied Middle Eastern affairs at Occidental College for a year and a half, when he moved to Los Angeles.
At the age of seven, Affleck first made an appearance in the film, "The Dark Film in the Street" in 1981. It was his biggest success as a child actor when he was a star of the series "The Voyage of the Mimi" and "The Second Voyage of the Mimi". From 1981-1997, Affleck appeared in numerous films as a child actor and as a teenager, such as in the ABC after school special "Wanted: A perfect Man", "Hands of A Stranger", the television film "Daddy", "School Ties" in 1992, and "Chasing Amy" in 1997.
Affleck co-write and acted in, in the American drama film "Good Will Hunting" in 1997. He and his friend Damon began working on the script when Damon moved to Affleck's apartment in Los Angeles. The two won the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Affleck is the youngest writer to win an Oscar for screenwriting.
In 1999, Affleck and Damon had an on-screen reunion that premiered at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. As he developed an interest in a directional career, he shadowed John Frankenheimer in the pre-production of the 2000 film "Reindeer Games".
In the year 2000s, Affleck was more involved in film and television production with his friend Damon. They sought to integrate the Internet into mainstream television and film production, with their production company LivePlanet. The documentary series "Project Greenlight" was LivePlanet's biggest success, which was aired on HBO and Bravo. In 2010, he decided to direct the drama "The Town", where he aslo re-wrote the screenplay and starred in the film. The film was a box office hit, and received positive feedbacks. Affleck directed the 2012 thriller film "Argo", where he won the Golden Globe Award, Directors Guild of America Award, and the BAFTA Award for Best Director.
Affleck made an appearance in several successful films in 2016, including his decision to star as the fictional character "Batman" in the superhero film, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". He made a cameo as his role Batman in the superhero based film "Suicide Squad", and in "Justice League".
Affleck dated actress Gwyneth Paltrow in October 1997. The two met at a Miramax dinner, and has also worked together on the film "Shakespeare in Love". The two broke up in January 1999, and resumed their relationship after Paltrow asked Affleck to co-star together on the film "Bounce". The two got separated again in October 2000, and remained friends.
From 2002 to 2004, Affleck dated Jennifer Lopez. They got engaged in November 2002, however, due to "too much media attention" their scheduled wedding on September 14, 2003 was postponed, and in January 2004, the two got separated.
In mid-2004, he dated the actress and producer Jennifer Garner, and got married on June 29, 2005. The two have three children together: two daughters and a son. They announce their separation in June 2015.
