She starred in several films including her breakthrough film role in "Boomerang", "The Flintstones" in 1994, "Bulworth", and "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge" in 1999, where she earned her Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe Awards. Early Life

Berry was born on August 14, 1966 and grew up in Oakwood Ohio together with he older sister, Heidi Berry-Henderson. Berry's name was changed legally from Maria Halle Berry to Halle Maria Berry. Her name "Halle" was from a local landmark in her birthplace in Ohio, which is the Halle's Department Store. Her parents, Judith Ann and Jerome Jesse Berry. Her mother was a psychiatric nurse, and her father was a hospital attendant in the psychiatric ward, where her mother worked. Her father later on worked as a bus driver. At the age of 4, Berry's parents got divorced.

Berry graduated in Bedford High School where she was a cheerleader, a honor student, prom queen, and an editor of their school's newspaper. She started joining beauty contests in 1980s, where she won the Miss Teen All America title in 1995, and a year later, she won in Miss Ohio USA. Berry was the first African-American to enter Miss World in 1986, where she placed sixth.

Career

Berry was cast for the role of model Emily Franklin, in the short-lived television series "Living Dolls". However, she collapsed into coma during a taping and was diagnosed with a Type 1 diabetes. Berry made her film debut in a small role for Jungle Fever in 1991. She portrayed several roles in different films such as in the romantic comedy film "Boomerang", "Flintstones", and the American drama film "Losing Isaiah" in 1995.

She received different praises for her role in the comedy film "Bulworth" in 1998. In the same year, she played the role Zola Taylor, a singer, who is one of the three wives of the pop singer Frankie Lymon in the romantic drama film "Why Do Fools Fall in Love", where she won several awards including her Primetime Emmy Award and her Golden Global Award.

Berry was married to Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005. She started dating Gabriel Aubry, a French-Canadian model, in November 2005. The two has a daughter born in March 2008, and apparently ended their relationship on April 30, 2010.

Berry started dating the French actor Olivier Martinez in the year 2010. Martinez and Aubry was treated at a hospital on November 2012, after they got into a physical fight at Berry's residence. Martinez filed a citizen's arrest on Aubry and was granted a temporary emergency protective order that is to prevent Aubry to be near within 100 yards of Berry, Martinez, and his daughter. In return, Aubry applied a restraining order against Martinez, claiming that the fight started when Martinez threatened to kill Aubry if he won't allow them to move to France. In June 2014, a Superior Court ruled that Berry had to pay Aubry $16,000 a month in child support and a $115,000 retroactive pay in child support and Aubry's legal fees.

Berry and Martinez married on July 13, 2013 in France. She gave birth to a baby boy on October 2013. Two years after their wedding, the couple announced that they were divorcing, and the divorced was reportedly finalized in December 2016.
