Ice T is an American rapper, musician, songwriter, record producer, actor, and author. He is best-known for his controversial single Cop Killer. He started as an underground rapper in the 1980s before signing a contract with Sire Records in 1987.

Early Life

Tracy Lauren Marrow was born on February 16, 1958 in New Jersey. At the age of eight, his mother died due to a heart attack. After four years, his father died in a car accident.

Being an orphan, Ice-T lived with his aunt in View Park-Windsor Hills. He went to Palms Junior High and later transferred to Crenshaw High School. His interest in heavy metal music was influenced by his cousin who is an avid rock fan.

From 1979 to 1983, he served the US Army to support his girlfriend and daughter. His earnings from selling stolen car stereos and cannabis were not enough.

After serving in the army, he recorded the rap called The Coldest Rap in 1983 for Saturn. He released his debut album entitled Rhyme Pays in 1987 under Sire. The album was certified gold.
