Irina Shayk is a Russian model known for appearing as the first Russian model to be on the cover of the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, and was ranked as "Industry Icon" by Models.com.
Irina Valeryevna Shaykhlislamova was born on January 6, 1986 in Yemanzhelinsk, Soviet Union. Her father, Valery Shaykhlismova, is a Volga Tatar and a coal miner. Her Mother, Olga, is a Russian and a kindergarten music teacher. She has one sister, Tatiana Petenkova. At the age of 14, Shayk's father died due to complications of pneumonia, leaving her family with little money.
Her mother wanted her to study music. At an early age, she started playing piano and enrolled in a music school where she both played the piano and sing in the choir. Shayk studied marketing, and later on chose to enter a beauty school together with her older sister. While she was attending the beauty school, she got noticed by a person from a local modeling agency which was struck by her beauty. She participated in the Miss Chelyabinsk 2004 beauty contest in which she won.
Shayk became the face of Intimissimi in 2007, and replaced Ana Beatriz Barros. In the same year until 2015, she attended in these annual editions, having photoshoots in places as Naples, Chile, St. Petersburg, and Grenada.
In 2010, Shayk became the official ambassador of Intimissimi after being the face of the company for almost three years. She had worked with campaigns like Beach Bunny Swimwear, the spring/summer 2009 season of Guess, Victoria's secret catalog, Cesari Paciotti, Lacoste, and Morellato. In the year 2009, she signed with the IMG Models modeling agency.
Shayk ranked first in the "50 Hottest Russian Woman" list by the Complex magazine. She was on the cover for the August issue of the fashion magazine Ocean Drive and GQ South Africa. Shayk shifted from swimwear to high fashion and landed the cover of Elle Spain, for their November 2010 issue. She was awarded "Best International Model of 2010" by Glamour Spain. Shayk was the cover model for the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for the first time, and her fifth time being featured in the magazine. She is also the first Russian model to be featured as the cover model.
Shayk has been a cover model to several magazines such as Cosmopolitan Spain, GQ Mexico, Tatler Russia, Glamour Spain, Twelv, Amica Italy, and the special edition for Christmas of Elle Spain. In brands, she has worked with Replay, Rampage, and XTI.
In the year 2012, she covered Marie Claire Ukraine, GQ Germany, Esquire UK, Harper's Bazaar Arabia and Ukraine, Glamour Russia, The Sunday Time Styles, and featured in 14 Cosmopolitan spring covers worlwide. She became the face of the brand La Clover and Avon's super drama mascara. On November 2012, she presented the fourth-season of the Russian reality television show, Top Model po-russki.
In March 2013, she did the runway of the brand Givenchy during the Paris fashion week, and featured in the Harper's Bazaar US for several times in that same year. In year 2016-2020, Shayk has walked the runways for Bottega Veneta, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Versace, Burberry, Givenchy, Moschino, Mango, Diane Von Furstenberg, Giles Deacon, and Philipp Plein. Shayk became the new L'Oréal Paris International Spokesperson in 2015. The following year, she walked in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show while she is 6 months pregnant with her baby girl.
In the year 2019, Shayk became the new face for the "Scandal" fragrance of Jean Paul Gaultier's. She also made her acting debut in the 2014 film Hercules as "Megara".
in 2009, Shayk met Portuguese football player Cristiano Ronaldo and then started dating later on. The two got split in January 2015. Shayk dated American actor Bradley Cooper in the spring of 2015, and had their daughter, Lea De Seine on March 21, 2017. The two eventually split up on June 2019.
As one of the known model in the modelling industry, Shayk made a total of 31 Vogue covers. As of today, 2021, she has an estimated net worth of $15 million.
