Mark Wahlberg is an American actor, producer, restaurateur, and a former rapper, who is known by his stage name "Marky Mark" from his career with the hip-hop group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. He made his screen debut in the comedy film Renaissance Man, and his first starring role in the 1996 psychological thriller film, Fear. Wahlberg was the executive producer of five HBO series: Entourage (2004-2011), Boardwalk Empire (2010-2014), How to Make It in America (2010-2011), Ballers (2015-2019), and McMillions (2020). Wahlberg also owns the Wahlburgers chain.

Early Life

Mark Robert Michael Wahlberg was born on June 5, 1971 in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, and the youngest of nine children of Alma Elaine and Donald Edmond Wahlberg. His parents got divorced in 1982.

He attended Copley Square High School on Newbury Street in Boston. Wahlberg did not received his high school diploma until June 2013. At an early age, he developed an addiction to cocaine and other substances.

Career

Wahlberg rose to fame as the younger brother of Donnie Wahlberg of the boy band, New Kids on the Block. However, after a few months he quit the band. In 1990, he started  recording with rappers/dancers Scott Ross, Anthony Thomas, Terry Yancey, and Hector Barros as Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. The hip-hop group played "Good Vibrations" from their album Music for the People, became number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and later on certified as a platinum single.

Wahlberg collaborated with the late reggae/ragga singer Prince Ital Joe on the album Life in the Streets. The album contains the singles Happy People, United, Life in the Streets, and Babylon. Some of the tracks were featured on the film Renaissance Man.

He released his single "No Mercy" in 1995, where Michalczewski also appears in the music video of the song. In 1995, Wahlberg released another album "The Remix Album", together with Prince Ital Joe for Ultraphonic Records.

In 1996-1997, he recorded the solo tracks Hey DJ, Feel the Vibe, Best of My Love, and Here With Me, were released on the album "All Around the World" in 1997. Wahlberg was featured as a stand-in for the band's bassist in the Black Label Society in 2000.

In the early 2000s, he appeared in some remakes of 1960s films like The Truth About Charlie, Planet of the Apes, and The Italian Job. His performance in the 2004 comedy film I Heart Huckabees was voted as best supporting performance of the year in The Village Voice Critics Poll in 2004.

Wahlberg displayed his physique in the "Good Vibrations" music video, and in a series of underwear ads for Calvin Klein. He also started serving as the brand ambassador for a line of sports nutrition supplements called Marked in 2012. Later on that year, he starred in the comedy film Ted, and returned in the same role on its sequel Ted 2 in 2015. Wahlberg also appeared in the war film Lone Survivor, where he received highly praised for his performance.

In 2018-2020, he appeared in the films Mile 22, the Netflix film Spenser Confidential, and the animated movie Scoob!, which he did his first voice acting role.

Wahlberg co-owns "Wahlburgers" chain with his two brothers Donnie and Paul. In 2015, he recruited Ronald Burkle and rapper Sean Combs to join him in investing in Aquahydrate, which is a bottled water brand he just discovered.

Personal Life

On August 1, 2009, Wahlberg married the American model Rhea Durham, at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Beverly Hills. The couple have two daughters: Ella Rae and Margaret, and two sons: Michael and Brendan Joseph.

Despite of being a Catholic, Wahlberg supports same-sex marriage. He established the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation in May 2001, with the purpose of raising and distributing funds to youth service and programs.

Wahlberg faced several charges when he was at his early age. This includes the incident that has occurred on April 1988, then-17 year old Wahlberg was high on PCP and assaulted two Vietnamese men on the same day. He was charged with attempted murder, pleaded guilted to felony assault, and was sentenced to jail but only served 45 days of his sentence.

In August 1992, Wahlberg attacked and fractured the jaw of his neighbor, Robert Crehan. Derek McCall was involved in the said incident, holding the victim on the ground. The lawsuit was later on settled between the two parties.
