Hardwick faced a lot of hurdles before appearing on the big screen. His breakthrough in 2004 when he was cast as Dante Ponce in the television series Sucker Free City in 2004. At the time, Hardwick was living out of his car, so his career progression came just in time.
His performances didn’t go unnoticed and soon after was cast by various TV and movie directors. One of the top-grossing films he featured in was The A-Team in 2010, which earned $177.2 million. Additionally, Hardwich featured in Kick-Ass in 2009 which grossed $96.2 million and For Colored Girls in 2010 with $94.9 million at box office.
Hardwick attended Marist School where he developed a passion for writing poetry that would stick with him throughout his life. He continued his studies at the University of Georgia where he had a football scholarship. Hardwick made the most of the acting facilities whilst at Georgia, and ended up minoring in theatre. After college moved to San Diego to be part of San Diego Chargers. Unfortunately, his football career ended because of a knee injury.
Entering the world of showbiz was not easy for Hardwick. He struggled landing on notable television shows and movies but did not give up. During his football career he learned to work hard and never quit - something which translated well to acting. Before moving to Los Angeles in 2000, Hardwick studied on Broadway in New York City and worked odd jobs to finance his acting classes. In his early days, he participated in different low-budget films but failed to hit the box office.
Hardwick continued his poetry. In 2003-2004, he competed in many poetry competitions including the National Poetry Slam. To date, he has written more than 3,000 poems.
Omari began dating his current wife Jennifer Jae Pfautch after meeting in the US. They tied the knot in June 2012 in Kansas City with their close friends from LA. One year later, Pfautch became pregnant and the pair would go on to have had two children together.
Hardwick got his career breakthrough for his part in Sucker Free City in 2004. It was followed by a role in the feature film The Guardian in 2006. In the same year, he played John "Sack" Hallon" in Saved, a medical drama series. To make his performance realistic, he trained as a fireman and a paramedic for two years. He also got the role of Ty Curtis in the series Dark Blue in 2009-2010. The series earned him a NAMIC Award nomination for best performance. He also starred in Being Mary Jane as Andre in 2013-2014. Alongside his big screen appearances he also featured in series including Next Day Air and Colored Girls.
In 2010, he founded the Plan B Inc. Theater Group and his own production company Bravelife Films. He also co-founded the Actor’s Lounge at the Greenway Theater in Los Angeles. In 2011, played the role of Troy in I Will Follow. It is the most outstanding movie of his career.

In 2014, he became part of a crime-drama television series Power. Hardwick played the lead role of James “Ghost” St. Patrick. Ghost is a ruthless drug-dealer who wants to leave the criminal world. Ghost aims to support his legitimate business and resolve his personal life.
His talent has not gone unnoticed and he received Black Reel Award for ‘outstanding actor in a series’ for Being Mary Jane.
