Sean John Combs was born on November 4, 1969 in Harlem, New York. His mother Janice was a part-time model and a teacher while his father Melvin was working for the U.S. Air Force. His father was shot dead by a New York gang when he was two years old.
He went to Mount Michael Academy then attended Howard University. He dropped out before his second year started to pursue his career in music. In 2014, he received an honorable doctorate degree in humanities from the University.

Before entering the world of music, Combs became a newspaper delivery boy. His music career started in 1990 when he became an intern in Uptown Records. When he got fired in 1993, he ventured with Artista Records to establish his own label Bad Boy Entertainment. Then-newcomer Notorious B.I.G. signed with him and quickly released hit singles. More artists began signing under his label including Usher, TLC, and Mary J. Blige.
In 1997, he changed his stage name to Puff Daddy and released his debut single Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down. It ranked number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 28 weeks. In the same year, he released his debut album No Way Out, which sold over 561,000 copies in a week. He got nominated five times at the 40th Grammy Awards. In 1998, he won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. In 2000, the album sold over 7 million copies making it a certified septuple platinum.
Combs then released his second album Forever in 1999. It ranked number two on the US Billboard 200 and sold over 1 million copies.
His other albums include The Saga Continues…(2001), Press Play (2006), and Last Train to Paris (2010).
In 2005, he again changed his stage name to P. Diddy and was named as one of the most influential people.
Combs started his movie appearance in Carlito’s Way: Rise to Power. He starred as Hollywood Nicky, leader of the black gangsters. The movie focuses on how Carlito Brigante (Jay Hernandez) emerges as the heroin leader of Harlem.
He also starred in I’m Still Here (2010), Draft Day (2014), and The Defiant Ones (2017).
Combs began dating actress Kim Porter in the 90’s. They had their son Christian in 1998. The pair split for a while then got back together in 2003. She then gave birth to their twin daughters, Jessie James and D’Lila Star, in 2006. The two separated again after a few months and Porter died in 2018.

Combs met singer Cassie Ventura in the early 2000s. The pair went public in 2012 but broke up in 2018.
