Tracy Morgan is best known as a comedian, but life has not been easy for him. His comedic career began after a series of personal tragedies.
“I want to be an example of a guy who made something of himself out of nothing. A guy who overcame the odds of a tough childhood, who worked hard, who didn’t let his surroundings get the best of him and lead him to jail or the graveyard. Where I ended up – being a comedian, a TV star, and a movie actor – might be unique, but my story is not.”– Tracy Morgan
Tracy Jamel Morgan was born on November 10, 1968 in the Bronx. His mother, Alicia, was a homemaker while his father, Jimmy, was a musician. He left home when his father returned as a recovering heroin addict from the military duty in the Vietnam War.
Morgan went to DeWitt Clinton High School. His father had contracted AIDS from hypodermic needle use in 1985. He dropped out of school just four credits short to get his diploma to take care of his dying father in 1987. In the same year, he married his girlfriend Sabina.
Already raising a son and struggling to make ends meet, Morgan sold crack cocaine. He began performing comedy on the streets after the death of his best friend. It was his best friend who urged him that he should be doing comedy.
Morgan’s stand-up comedy career started at the Apollo Theatre and later at the Uptown Comedy Club. He debuted his TV career on Martin as Hustle Man, the neighborhood purveyor of questionable products and services. He became part of the show from 1994 to 1996.

He then dated model Megan Wollover and got engaged in 2011. They had their daughter named Maven Sonae on July 2, 2013. The pair tied the knot on August 23, 2015.
Morgan was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996, but did not take it seriously. He had a kidney transplant in December 2010 because of his diabetes and alcohol abuse.
