Will Ferrell is an American actor, producer, writer, and a businessman. He is known for starring in several films including in the comedy film "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy", the "Talladega Nights" in 2006, "Step Brothers" in 2008, and "The Other Guys" in 2010. He founded the comedy website Funny or Die, together with his comedy partner Adam McKay in 2007. Ferrell received a star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 2015.

Early Life

John William Ferrell was born on July 16, 1967 in Irvine, California. His parents, Betty Kay and Roy Lee Ferrell Jr. He has a younger brother, Patrick, and his family moved to California in the year 1964. At the age of 8, his parents got divorced. He attended University High School where he was on the soccer team player, the captain of the basketball team, and also serves on the student council. Ferrell said that the "dullness" of living in Irvine put up to the growth of his humor.

During his high school years, Ferrell developed an interest in acting. He performed comedic sketches in their school's talent shows and was voted "Best Personality" by his classmates. In college, he attended University of Southern California and studied sports broadcasting. Ferrell joined the Delta Tau Delta and is known for streaking around the campus together with other people from the fraternity.

After he graduated in 1990, with a B.A. degree in sports information, he knew and decided that he did not want to do broadcasting. Ferrell took different jobs before he moved to Los Angeles, and successfully auditioned for the comedy group "The Groundings".

Career

Before he successfully joined the comedy group "The Groundings, he was not that popular with his attempts at stand-up comedy. Ferrell liked to impersonate other people, and later on develop his original characters. He had small roles in television series including in "Grace Under Fire", and several commercials.

Saturday Night Live

In the year 1994-1995, Saturday Night Live's popularity began to decline. Due to in need of new cast members for its next season, a producer asked Ferrell and the other members of The Groundlings, to audition for SNL's main producer. In 1995, he joined Saturday Night Live and left in the year 2002. Ferrell hosted the show five times and became a member of the show's "Five Timer's Club". He made a name for himself during his time on the show in impersonating other people like George W. Bush, Harry Caray, Neil Diamond, Robert Goulet, James Lipton, and more. In his original characters, he had Morning Latte co-host Tom Wilkins, the fictional Blue Oyster Cult member Gene Frenkle, the cheerleader Craig Buchanan, Mister Ed the Horse's twin brother Ned, music teacher Marty Culp, David Leary from Dog Show, Hank of the Brill Brasky Buddies, night clubber Steve Butabi, and Dale Sturtevant from Dissing Your Dog. With a season salary of $350,000, Ferrell became the highest-paid cast member of the show. In 2014, he was voted as the Best Saturday Night Live cast member of all time.

When he left the television show, he starred in several movies such as the 2003 American comedy film "Old School" where he received an MTV Movie Awards nomination for the Best Comedic Performance. Ferrell earned himself a spot in one of Hollywood's Frat Pack with his comedy roles in several films from 2004 to 2005.

In 2006, he starred in the films "Stranger Than Fiction", and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby", which both films has received positive feedbacks and box office success. In 2009 to 2012, Ferrell appeared in several films such as "Land on the Lost", the action comedy film "The Other Guys" which was a commercial success earning $140 million, "Casa de Mi Padre", the political comedy film "The Campaign" in 2012, which also was a huge success after it grossed over $104 million.

Voice Acting

Ferrell has done voice acting in different animated television films and programs such as his portrayal of Bob Oblong in the animated television series "The Oblongs", the animated sitcom "Family Guy". He also played Ted in the animated adventure comedy film "Curious George" in 2006, voiced the title character in the DreamWorks Animation film "Megamind", and as the President Business in "The Lego Movie".

Other Ventures

On March 2015, Ferrell played in five games of the Major League Baseball spring training, for promoting a Funny or Die charity special. The memorabilia was sold and auctioned, and its proceeds was sent to two cancer charities.

Ferrell became a part-owner of Los Angeles FC soccer team in 2016.

Personal Life

Ferrell married the Swedish actress Viveca Paulin in August 2000. The couple have three sons, and they lived in New York City as well as in Orange County, California.
